unsuccessful suicide attempt. Tony has taken an overdose. Vanessa has slit her wrist. And Conner shot himself in the chest. And now they are beginning their journey to understanding. Told in alternating chapters we learn about the events in their lives that led them to this place. Tony's mother who cares little for him and would rather see him locked up in juvie than lose a boyfriend. Vanessa who is a secret cutter. She believes that she has the same bipolar order as her mother. And Conner who has it all. Good looks, money, brains but also an emotionally distant mother. Will they all come to terms with what life offers?

this is definetly the best book i have ever read!
and kept me interested all the way through.
the ending was quite sad though,
and surprising.
i dont really read a lot, but i write a lot, mostly in verse and to see stories in verse was nice .
definetly the best book i have ever read, check it out!
i hated this book.
don't get me wrong, it's an amazing read,
but i can't handle a sad ending like that.
i wanted to cry or scream or swear
i couldn't stand what one of the heroes did
but then again i knew it couldn't have a happy ending.
I love love LOVE this book! I can relate SOOO much to it cuz I used to cut!!
it just touches me every time I read it (three times and counting!!!) and I often find myself in relations to the emotions that Tony, Connor, and Vanessa deal with. I can't read the book without whispering to the characters, they are so cleverly created and make me believe that they are talking to me, standing right next to me. I also love the plot and the all around way it is written, because writing is my dream. I have to admit, I originally picked up the book because the girl's name was Vanessa (it's my favorite gorls' name) but after page 1 I was immediately hooked. I also love the way I can cnnect with each individual character- from the way Vanessa cuts to how surpressed Connor fells. I'm begging to be allowed to go back to the library so I can read it again, so I can get my fanfic started!!!
this was an amazing book
its verse-style was beautiful
and the characters were all so real and deep
it really captures the thoughts and feelings behind suicide, something that most people can't understand
as for the ending, although it was shocking and rather depressing, it perfectly portrays reality, because in the end, not everyone can have a happy ending, there's always someone who just can't make it.
this is truly an incredible book; captivating, thought-provoking, and sometimes just down-right hilarious. five star all the way
this book is deffianlity my favorite book. its writen so beautifuly. i felt like i could really connect with these charcters because the feelings Vanessa Conner and Tony felt i have felt too. You can tell that Ellen is an amazing writer because even though i could predict the ending i kept not wanting it to happen and that shows a truly amazing writer. Ohh and after i read the last page, i deffinalty cried ;]
This book is one of my favorite books ever! All the charachters had such distinct, unique personalities. I loved Tony the best.
I've never been able to relate to a character in a book more than I have with Vanessa
Though this was a really long book I read it in an hour. I could not put it down.
Fer shur one of my favourite books
I <3 this book! I cried so much!
This book would make a gr8 movie.
It is not the best book I have ever read but it is in my top 20. At times it got confusing as to who was thinking what. And It really only dipped into tony's past and not everyone elses. Like hes was so huge and thiers was nothing. I was a fast read only three hours but it was still lacking in some places. But all in all it was a great book.
This book is a fantasic read, and I truely cried at the ending, but I think in a good way. I do not think it would make a good movie though, because more often than not they cut peices out in movies, take White Oliander for example. It upseats me how parents saw this book is "Totaly unacceptable", why? Because the characters are unmastakably real? Some parents just wont let there children leave leave the nest....
But, yes, fantastic book, fantastic author , and a very touching read!
Make a movie out of this! Please!
this book was great and should be made into a movie!
sad and shocking ending but thats how life is everyone doesn't always make it no matter how smart or special they are.
