  • Petersen, P. J.WILD RIVERNew York : Delacorte, 2009IL 3-6, RL 3.3ISBN 0385737246“What?s going on, Tanner?” He flashed his big happy smile. “…I talked to Mom and Dad. And you get to come with me, little bro. Fishing, kayaking, camping. What could be better than that?” To please his older brother, Tanner, 12-yr-old Ryan is going with him on an overnight kayaking trip. He’s just a stand-in for his brother’s friend, who couldn’t make it at the last minute. And to his way of thinking, lots of things could be better. Because Ryan just isn’t the outdoor-sy type. Tanner is the athlete, the camper, the hiker---Ryan would much rather be in front of his computer playing video games. Oh well, at least he and Tanner get along, and Tanner has packed and prepared for everything. It’s only for one night, and then Ryan can be back on the couch, where he’d rather be. Until the kayak capsizes. Until Tanner is injured. Until Ryan is on his own, trying to figure out how to get them both home alive from their trip on a Wild River. • Wow. It has been a month since I posted my "daily" podcast! Between the end of the school year crazies and the class I'm taking, I really haven't even thought of podcasting! I have never put so much time into a class before. Writing the final papers is about all I have done for the past two weeks. I'm talking about 16 hours a day! I have finished my 4th draft and will try to let them sit for a couple of days and then go back and look at them again and hope they are ready for primetime!
