Do you kow that if you lived way back in 1726, you would not find any good children's books to read? It's true. The only books that were published for children were religious tales and books meant to teach lessons. But that would all change when John Newbery became a publisher. He believed that children should have access to books written just for them. There should be exciting tales and stories about fantasy. Others felt that children should not read fiction because it would corrupt. Fortunately for all of us who love children's books, he was able to promote good books for children!
