On June 26, 2015. the United States Supreme Court ruled that gay people had the right to marry anywhere in the country. This didn't happen overnight. Many people fought for the right for equality. One man who was very vocal in the fight was Harvey Milk. He had dreamed of a country where gay people would be treated with equality. When a gay pride parade was planned for San Francisco in 1978, Harvey knew there had to be a symbol for the movement. That is when the gay flag was born.
