Today we had the great pleasure of having author Roland Smith visit. During the day, he visited with all our 400+ 7th graders. The students love Smith's books and when they heard he was coming to our school, excitement broke out all over. Smith told the students about growing up in Oregon and about how he came to work in a zoo. The kids ate this up. With stories of animals, climbing and writing, Smith had them under his spell for the entire visit! He also spoke about his writing process and the importance of research and revision. Hopefully the kids will not view teacher comments on papers as a positive thing rather than a negative one.
