Is also a book about polio and iron lungs. It is 1955 and 11 year old Laurie ‘s best friend is diagnosed with polio. She visits him in the hospital and learns about the children there. Besides Dickie, there is Chip who is an orphan, and Carolyn who is 14 and has lived inside an iron lung for 8 years. Her stories help the children escape from their world for a time and they look forward to her visits.
